Edibility & Allergens

EDIBILITY

The flowers and leaves we sell are all widely known edible plant varieties and they are also naturally vegan and gluten free.

Some pressed dried flowers such as Violas and all our edible petals are suitable for eating whole and can be used in all types of food products such as desserts, iced biscuits, salads, cakes and chocolates. These flowers are mild in flavour and have a delicate texture which makes them pleasurable to eat.

Some parts of edible flowers are not suitable for eating though, such as the centres and stems of certain varieties. Also, when flowers are pressed and dried, even those that are pleasurable to eat whole when fresh become too stiff and stalky and the heads too tough to be considered truly edible so they are best removed before serving. These flowers are suitable for decoration only and best used on large cakes or as plate decorations.

Please see the description of each listing for details.

ALLERGIES

Edible flowers are not recommended for those with severe food or pollen allergies as flowers do contain pollen and may also have traces of pollen from other species as insects fly freely between crops.

Some flowers such as Fennel and Coriander are members of the celery family and should be avoided by anyone with an allergy to celery. We label each of our products clearly with the species name to enable you to make informed choices.
