Calendula officinalis is aromatic plant with a long history of use by many cultures. Originally native to southern Europe, it has been cultivated across Europe and the Middle East for centuries. The flowers have been used as a food, dye for fabrics and incorporated into cosmetics. It will happily flower all year round when conditions are favourable. The petals are completely edible, have a mild flavour and have long been used to brighten up salads. These striking large bright orange flowers can be the spiky cactus type or ones with rounded petals.
