Centaurea cyanus is our native cornflower that once grew as a weed in cornfields throughout the UK. Our wild cornflower, with its beatiful bright blue petals is now considered to be endangered in its native habitat due to the widespread use of industrial agricultural techniques. The beautiful flowers are surrounded by a ring of colourful spiky petals and we harvest only these outer parts, ensuring the highest quality of colour. Wonderful for wildlife, the pollen and nectar are a food source for many species of bees and the seeds are enjoyed by birds such as goldfinches.
