Calendula officinalis is aromatic plant with a long history of use by many cultures. Originally native to southern Europe, it has been cultivated across Europe and the Middle East for centuries. The flowers have been used as a food, dye for fabrics and incorporated into cosmetics. It will happily flower all year round when conditions are favourable. The petals, which are completely edible and have a mild flavour come in shades of orange and yellow and have long been used to brighten up salads. These shiny translucent petals are around 20mm - 30mm long and look amazing when used on buttercreams or glace icing.
